U.S. Cell Phone Imports, China Finally Falls to No. 1



 China is no longer the largest importer of cell phones for the United States. According to the author's analysis of U.S. Census Bureau trade data, China was the number one importer of cell phones to the U.S. for at least 279 months (23 years and 3 months) since January 2002, but relinquished that position to India in April of this year.

China lost its top spot in cell phones for the U.S. because of the trade war that began with Trump and continues with bipartisan support.

I thought the Trump shock had a big impact.

    That had been a long-standing trend. Now, I'm curious about the smartphone industry. I believe Apple Inc. is leading, but what exactly is the situation with the other companies and brands?

Summer Bonus

On May 8, the Labor Administration Research Institute released the results of a survey on the level of summer bonus payments by companies listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The average of 114 companies in all industries was 862,928 yen, the highest since the survey began in 1970. 　By industry, "Non-manufacturing" and "Manufacturing" averaged 715,328 yen and 902,288 yen, respectively, with "Automobile" at the top at 1,040,621 yen.
